GENERAL INVOICE SALES TRACKER PLUS(+)
READ-ME.DOC - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
SETTING YOUR SYSTEM FOR A MAXIMUM NUMBER OF OPEN FILES
VERY IMPORTANT! If you wish to "try" this program before doing a "full"
installation by using INSTALL.EXE, it is necessary to set your CONFIG.SYS
Boot-Up file so that it contains the following command line...,
FILES = 25 (or more - within reason)
INSTALL.EXE will automatically do this if you have a hard drive, but you
must set this manually if you don't run the installation program. See your
DOS/MS-DOS instruction manual on CONFIG.SYS for more information. Not
setting this command properly can cause the Program, Printer or System to
jam up if "GPP" attempts to open one too many files. The default maximum
number of "files open at one time" is usually only "9", and most systems'
BootUp files will use up about half of that number all by themselves.
NEW KIND OF DATA FILE
Data files created with either of the older "GIST-ORIGINAL" or "GIST-PLUS"
programs are NOT compatible with this new "GIST-PLUS(+)" program.
New Registered Users will receive a support file named "CONVERT.EXE" which
will convert and combine the older INVOICE.REC and CUSTOMER.REC files from
"GIST-PLUS" into a brand new type of "GPP" data file. This new solo file
(all in one file) will contain everything that was contained in the seven
"*.REC & *.NDX" files used by "GP". This new type of data file is called an
"ISAM" file. The "ISAM" file appears to be a much more rugged and a less
delicate file than those used in our previous programs.
CONVERT.EXE is NOT included with UnRegistered Versions in an effort to
keep the (already too large) UpLoad/DownLoad Archive Files as small as
possible, and because this file is NOT needed to "Evaluate" GIST++.
USING OUR SAMPLE DATA FILES
If you have never used this program before, and are just "checking it out"
to see if it does what you want, then answer "Y" (for YES) when asked if
you want to "USE THE SAMPLE DATA FILES?". A "yes" answer will provide you
with a couple of demo data files which show many of the features of this
program, and save YOU the time and trouble of entering your own data just
to "try" this program.
